UAE announces new resolution to accelerate Emiratisation efforts within private sector

The new resolution offers a minor update as opposed to a massive overhaul.

A UAE Cabinet resolution on modifying the mechanism for achieving Emiratisation targets at private sector companies with more than 50 employees has come into force.

Starting from 2022, as per Ministerial Decision No. 279 of 2022, establishments registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) employing more than 50 workers had to increase their current Emiratisation rate within high-skilled jobs by 2 per cent annually, gradually raising the said rate to 10 per cent by 2026.

Previously, this percentage would be confirmed annually. However, with the new resolution, this has become a semi-annual act of due diligence.

According to a tweet by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), "The overall mechanism of achieving the targeted Emiratisation rates has not changed; it became semi-annual instead of annual. Companies with more than 50 employees are required to achieve an increase of 1% of skilled jobs every 6 months and reach a growth of 2% by the end of the year."

The Emiratisation mandate is supported by NAFIS, a federal program that aims to increase the competitiveness of Emirati human resources and empower them to occupy jobs in the private sector.
